Manchester GLASS Meeting
Results of items discussed on 9th April 1998
1. Promotion of Manchester’s Lanes.
Before we can promote their use we need to know where they are.
Rob Smith (from Tamworth) has written a database for cataloguing rights of way and Dave Pickering is now assisting him.
Dave Pickering is to produce Lane Survey Forms by the next (May 14th) meeting.
Once this is done we have to make sure that any promotion is done uniformly otherwise there is a risk that a few lanes will suffer from overuse.
2. Green Lane Day 1998.
In order to get all local clubs involved we must try to include GLD into the club's calendar of events as early as possible.
Therefore Ian Boddison is to find out what the date of GLD 1999 will be.
The event was successful and we must try to actively build on what we have achieved.
Also we must stress that the event is not organised by any one club but is organised by GLASS on behalf of the various clubs who provide the labour.
A press release must be sent out - we will contact Frank Elson so that he can write one.
3. Co-operation Between Clubs.
We will look into contacting every local club and suggesting that they take out associate membership and that their RoW officer attends the local meetings.
4. Future Offers of Maintenance Assistance.
No action can be taken until the consultation document is prepared.
5. Survey Forms and Database.
Dave Pickering is to produce Lane Survey Forms for the next meeting.
Ian Boddison will attempt to list a substantial number of the lanes that need to be surveyed.
6. Training Meetings
7. Local Lane News.
Ian Boddison to prepare a list of which lanes are being investigated with highways authorities, which lanes are currently being researched and which lanes urgently need researching or surveying.
This list should be available for the next meeting.
