Browser Advice Tom

Straight to the top -

is the highly graphical site, it is heavily framed in places but not intrusively so (we think) it contains javascripted elements but no java applets as yet so is friendly to 'paranoid firewalls' :)

This site is best viewed at 800x600 full screen OR ABOVE with a 64m Trucolor display, but has been tested at other screen resolutions and color depths and is viewable, the minimum being Netscape 3 or IE3 with 256 colors.

The site benefits from having toolbars minimised or turned off, especially the larger ones.. a good thing to do in IE4.0 is to choose view/toolbars and uncheck 'text labels'.

We recommend IE4 in general for this site because Netscape insists on putting little black lines across graphics that span frames, and IE displays them seamlessly. (If anyone knows how to cure this, apart from "don't use frames" the please let us know)

Font size.. you might like to adjust your font size. In IE4.0 choose view/fonts/ and select medium, smaller or larger so that the line of <xxxx>'s is as near the same length as the horizontal lines. In Netscape choose View and either 'increase font' or 'decrease font'. If they are already the same then you don't have to bother :)

Way down in the hole -

is the low graphics/text based site. It does use tables but not extensively and only for minor formatting, they should 'degrade' legibly for browsers that can't see them. Although we have tried to retain the graphical 'look' of the other site, the graphics have been compressed to the bone, and are hopefully either small or unobtrusive, and are mainly large area/small filesize background images. We aimed at 10-15k per page in page weight although some text files are larger, but they are pure info so we think you won't mind. This site should be much faster.. it should be compatible with all browsers at all sensible screen resolutions, it should be 'screen reader' friendly for the visually impaired. It has been tested on Lynx 2.8, Netscape 1.1, Mosaic 2.0, IE 2.0 and Opera 3.0. If your browser has any problems with any page in our 'any browser' site please let us know

If you have an underpowered browser running on a slower or older machine might I suggest you take a look at Opera, it is a very good choice for this type of machine...
