Having left my job at the end of June I was delighted when a place became spare on the trip to the Czech Republic scheduled for early August. All I knew about Czech was that it was on the way to Russia (so it was probably very cold), that its capital was Prague, and that it brewed what was reputed to be the finest beer in the world. The previous Luxembourg trip was unique in that it is not the usual tourist destination but the VOC had again triumphed in choosing an unusual destination. Otto and Lorraine from Centre 6, organised the trip Otto being of Czech blood knew the country well and speaks the language fluently, a necessity that we were to call on many times over the next few days. I must admit to trepidation at travelling so far on a bike, but hell, this is what I packed up work for and the trusty 1100 was built for it even if I wasnt.
Having packed all my gear for a weeks trip, filled up with fuel and checked that I had spare batteries for the maglight and plenty of mozzie repellent (they were reported to be huge monsters), I gave the bike one final polish before retiring to dream of the coming adventure. |
