Day 8 Thursday – 13th August – Chilling out

The weather was now a changeable and angry looking with sporadic showers.

We decided to chill out in preparation for the long ride home so spent the day on site. Fitting Annemarie’s Highway Pegs seemed like a simple job but one of the threads was not tapped out properly, so it became a time consuming pain in the arse of a job. It’s always the way with simple jobs.

The guys who worked in the compound where we parked the bikes came to our rescue however, re-tapping the thread and fitting a larger bolt. They were very reluctant to take any money for doing it as well.

Dave & Sue, Nettie & Chris, Dave & Annie, Colin and Ken decided to head South into Austria for the day. (thanks to Dave for this write up).

"The 5 bikes departed Trebon at about 9.30am. The sun was shining and the roads were quiet. Our destination was Linz where we arrived at about 12.30. The countryside was different in Austria and very lovely.

We crossed the river in Linz over the main bridge by accident but the views were worth it. Back over the bridge we dropped straight onto the main square where we parked up.

The group had a few hours, a refreshing drink and a stroll around the town. After a couple of purchases we had a bite of lunch.

The town was lovely, definitely worth a full day visit, and Austria as a whole appeared to be beautiful.

On our return trip, Ken accidently put diesel in hid bike, however Annie saw him before he filled up completely, hence we drained the tank. A laugh was had by all.

15 minutes from Trebon, the heavens opened with warm rain. Clever Dave & Sue had no waterproofs so we got a good soaking. All in all a great day and well worth the trip."

Yet another group, led by Otto visited a Castle nestling in a very picturesque town.

We decided to fill up our bikes during late afternoon in readiness for the morning, so shot into town. On the way back we got stuck behind a big lorry and were forced into following it at 2mp all the way back to camp. Needless to say it pelted great big soaking drops of rain all the way back.

We planned a further trip into Trebon for the final evening in Czech so I set out early for a stroll to town on the cycle path which follows the lake all the way. I would use the phone at the far end of town, then meet the others in the square.

I dodged a downpour by standing under an Oak tree in my trusty "Kag-in-a-bag".

When the rain stopped I set off down the path, hop-scotching to avoid the large mini lakes which had appeared on the path.

The early evening sun came out and the mist was covered in a pinkish steam which the Carp were jumping out of, here and there. The fresh smell all around after the rain will be one of the things I will always remember.

The others arrived by taxi and we found the restaurant recommended by Malcolm & Audrey just beyond the square.

After a pleasant meal we walked back in the dark with just one torch between us.

Back at the camp, the Country & Western night was in full swing, but I decided against it to give myself a chance to get up in the morning.
