Number 6 awakens to find The Village deserted. His water and electricity is cut off and Number 2 is nowhere to be found.
After initial wariness Number 6 sees this as his biggest chance to escape and sets about making a raft and taking photos of all the Village buildings.
After stocking up on food and supplies he pushes the raft
out to sea. After days at sea he collapses from exhaustion and is
picked up by two gun-runners. They leave him for dead but he manages
to get aboard their boat and overpower them. After another fight he
escapes overboard and swims toward the shore.
He hitches a ride on the back of a lorry and finally arrives back in London. He returns to his old apartment where he discovers it (and his car!) has been sold out to a 'Mrs. Butterworth' who befriends him and helps him return to his old office.
Once there he encounters some trouble in convincing his old colleagues about where he has been. He is eventually given the benefit of the doubt and he makes it his mission to seek out the location of The Village with disastrous consequences....
