Know Your Number 2s!

Guy Doleman - the first actor to play 'Number 2' in Arrival, among Doleman's other acting credits was a role in the James Bond film 'Thunderball' as Count LippeGeorge Baker - the replacement Number 2 in Arrival.  Baker is perhaps best known for his role as Inspector Wexford in the Ruth Rendell MysteriesLeo McKern - played Number 2 in The Chimes of Big Ben, Once Upon A Time and Fall Out.  The only actor to play Number 2 three times, McGoohan said he wrote the last two episodes with McKern in mind.Colin Gordon - played Number 2 in A, B and C and The General.  Sadly,  Colin died in 1972 aged 61.Eric Portman - played Number 2 in Free For AllAnton Rodgers - played Number 2 in The Schizoid Man.  Rodgers later went on to appear in Rumpole of The Bailey with Leo McKern and starred in the BBC comedy series 'May to December'.Georgina Cookson - played Number 2 (a.k.a. Mrs Butterworth) in Many Happy Returns, she also has a small role in A, B and C.Mary Morris - played Number 2 in Dance of The Dead.  Mary, in her Peter Pan outfit, provides perhaps one of the most memorable Prisoner promotional photos on the sands at Portmeirion, she had also played Peter Pan in the theatre!Peter Wyngarde - played Number 2 in Checkmate.  He went on to appear in many other ITC series.  He starred in Department Sand went on to appear in his own show 'Jason King' a spin-off.  He also appeared in The Avengers.Patrick Cargill - played Number 2 in Hammer Into Anvil.  He appeared in the comedy series 'Father Dear Father' at the time of The Prisoner and the show continued long after.Andre Van Gyseghem - played the rather angst-ridden Number 2 in Its Your Funeral.Derren Nesbit - played the new Number 2 in Its Your Funeral.  Originally he was to play the part with dark hair but had to dye it blonde for a production.  McGoohan saw it and told him to leave it as it made him look more menacing!  Derren later admitted that he didn't understand The Prisoner so played the part totally confused!John Sharpe - played Number 2 in A Change of MindClifford Evans - played Number 2 in Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darling!David Bauer - played Number 2 (a.k.a. The Judge) in Living in Harmony.  Kenneth Griffith - played Number 2 (a.k.a. Dr Schnipps) in The Girl Who Was Death.  He went on to play The President in Fall Out.  Griffith played Napoleon in a TV version of War and Peace in 1963!  He has recently appeared in the hit film Four Weddings and a Funeral and The Englishman Who Went up a Hill and Came Down a Mountain.
