art became infused with mysticism, and by the closely allied Symbolist movement in literature

Symbolist Androgyny My search for male androgyny turned to Symbolist painters.
Neither Elihu Vedder nor William Bouguereau were given much to painting young men.
Indeed it looks as though Vedder’s model for Cupid was a young girl.

Alchemy and the Romantic Imagination
It was through understanding the significance of alchemical symbolism that Jung came to
formulate his central concept of individuation. In two of his most important works,
Psychology and Alchemy and Mysterium Coniunctionis, Jung turned his attention almost
exclusively to the study of the psychology of alchemy.

Alchemical symbolism, imagery and music
Imagery and symbolism are important facets of alchemy. Alchemical writers used beautiful
imagery as a means of illustrating their ideas. Manuscripts and printed books are full of
symbolism, emblems and imagery, often elaborated into complex sequences.

non-verbal symbolism and imagery
Since non-verbal symbolism and imagery is a very important part of many Anime, Manga,
and videogame (especially shoujo and bishoujo works), I have attempted to gather
information here that will help to explain why the artists chose to use this color, or that
animal, or have this event, or use that item, or what it all means.

www.artemis-artist.com One often finds the same symbolic elements in your
paintings? "It is true that I like to be inspired by contrasts sun/moon,
man/woman, yin/yang, cold and hot, values that to me, are not to be considered
as a duality but more as as complementary components. The one cannot be
dissociated from the other. Light would not be highlighted without shade,
as shade would not exist without light. But the most disturbing is when there
is fusion of these values; something magical happens in a perfect harmony,
as a union to a new creation: the ultimate perfection. A real alchemy of
forms. I realize I have not exhausted the inspiration that is inside me;
this is what makes me believe that it will influence me again for future works.

Marilyn Greenberg I create a language of symbols that, when used in the
proper way, have a certain seductive quality & a psychological force-Because
they come full of imbedded meaning, I like to appropriate symbols like the
egg or the rose. I use stencils in some of my work because of the decorative
impact, but also for the built-in meanings it calls to mind. .
I think of these pieces developing & relating to one another like stanzas
building a poem.

"I call my paintings ‘visual haiku’ after the Japanese poetic tradition of observing nature
ferociously until substance gives way to spirit. Like haiku, my paintings are meant to
represent moments of heightened awareness and existential beauty.

Uriel Dana Paintings and Poems. The following oil paintings
and poems are part of what I call my "Shringara Rasa" series.
Shringara is a Sanskrit word that means "erotic", and rasa
refers to the "flavour" or "mood" of an art form. Shringara
Rasa refers to the way in which we reach love or ecstasy that
is both human and divine. I am trying to blend this eastern
concept into a western format.
