I have recently acquired a Rodelmodell kit fuselage for the Ka-6e. This model is 4.2m wingspan, to a scale of 1:3.6. Projected weight is 9 pounds on an Eppler 392 wing section. The Ka6E was one of the loveliest sailplanes of the 60s, with pleasing lines and most generous wing area, giving the model excellent flight characteristics. Originally built of wood and fabric, the Ka6E was one of the very best and a forerunner of the modern glass slippers.

Attesting to its excellent flight performance, there are still many airworthy today and chances are there is one near you to model yours after. Friends tell me that as I am a slope hooligan and normally fly fast aerobatic ships I will soon get bored with it. I must say however that the Ka-6 must rate as one of the prettiest pre-glass ships and there is a certain pleasure to be gained from flying something that has classic and very distinctive lines. Then again they might be right!
