BEAT THE TOUT
The ever so luscious Jewel first wowed a crowd of, it must be admitted, mostly male press bods (funny that) when her Pieces Of You album emerged in 1995, accompanied by a biography that placed this Alaskan beauty in a modern hippie medium as the daughter of bohemians who lived in a log cabin without running water, electricity or a ready supply of sun-dried tomatoes.
Despite this harsh upbringing, Jewel hit the coffee-house circuit running, enjoyed a fling with Sean 'come up and see the etchings in my trailer' Penn and then sold over 24 million albums worldwide and four million copies of her poetry collections, making her the most popular poet in America! Jewel's intimate, intelligent folky songs are what draws her fanbase however, and her latest album, This Way, also features Madonna producer Rick Nowles. Her London show will be a mouth-watering prospect for all the right reasons, and some of the wrong ones. MAX BELL
