Jewel may have co-written and sung on Silver Lining, the first single
from the debut album of her songwriting former beau, Steve Poltz, but
before you start moving the yodelling diva back into his appartment, we
think we had better tell you that she's been stepping out with a more
flamboyant type lately. Once pursued doggedly by Sean Penn, the
23-year-old singer (below) has recently been spotted with that
muscle-bound action star, Jean Claude Van Damme. Recently sued for
divorce by his fourth wife, the Muscles from Brussels was introduced to
the singer at LA's trendy Sky Bar and the two "hit it off", according to
friends. Jewel gushed that she was a big fan of the muscle man, and Van
Damme claimed he "knew her music", before gazing deeply into her azure
eyes and whispering that "he hadn't realized how beautiful she was".

And it seems to have worked, since this oddest of couples were recently
spotted at a private party for Rolling Stone publishing magnate Jann
Wenner, and had a rainy Valentine's Day weekend getaway in Carmel,
California. The next weekend, they travelled to Palm Springs, and were
spotted downing double espressos before a round of miniature golf. Let them
eat cake, eh? And did we mention that Jean Claude went all out and bought
a Beanie Baby - tiny collectable dolls currently wowing the infant
market - for Jewel's collection, along with a box of pricy chocolates?
