Already on tour, Jewel shines on TV, too from HamptonRoads.com...I'm a really shy person, and I'm a writer, so it makes me more of a voyeur. I'm not an exhibitionist. That's been the biggest adjustment for me. I'm not used to being watched - that was kind of hard.

Jewel is on the cover of the July/August 2006 issue of the US magazine American Songwriter...Eleven years ago, a petite blonde folk singer with a sweet, plaintive soprano arrived on the music scene, plying her spare story songs to a generation obsessed with grunge. Much to her surprise ... Jewel's debut album, Pieces of You, went on to sell an astonishing 12 million copies.

There's an interview with Jewel in the July 2006 issue of the US magazine Blender (there's another interview on the Blender website)...At about four in the morning Ty was a slobbering, infantile drunk, and his friend Jim Sharp, a really famous bull rider, decided to pour more alcohol down his throat. Jewel is an alcoholic from CeleBitchy.com...JEWEL has apparently gone from clean-living songbird to Robitussin-swilling lush. The Alaskan hottie, 32, reveals she recently started hitting the happy juice - and is loving every minute of her drunken bliss.

12th June 2006

I've just heard that Goodbye Alice In Wonderland entered the album chart at #114, if that's true then it is Jewel's worst charting album, although it did take a couple of years for Pieces Of You to peak at 82.

Goodbye Alice In Wonderland failed to make it into the Official Top 75 UK album chart this week. No idea at the moment where it entered, hopefully it did better than Again And Again. Jewel's worst performing album to date is Pieces Of You which only managed to peak at 82.

Surprised to see a review of Goodbye Alice In Wonderland in this week's NME (10 June 06). They've not reviewed a Jewel album since they called Spirit evil and gave it 1/10 back in 1998. There's not much Improvement this time: Goodbye Alice gets 4/10 and they call it "the sort of glossy-folk-pop that makes you want to usher Alice down the rabbit hole, and roll out the cement mixer."

10th June 2006

Jewel, at Her Best When Going It Alone from The Washington Post...After inviting requests ("I'm a little blond jukebox!") and then claiming to have forgotten the songs, Jewel indulged one fan in the front row who called her bluff by producing a lyric sheet.

9th June 2006

Jewel sparkles despite music biz pressures from The Detroit News..."It's really nice to have a girl around. Usually, I'm the only girl," Jewel says. "The guys are usually all out, going to strip clubs, and I don't have anything to do; so it's really fun to have (Marisol) around."

Jewel's life is a 'Wonderland' from BostonHerald.com...Making the video was fun, but we were flying by the seat of our pants with only one day to work. No second takes. We did it as a minimovie with the verses as reality, portrayed in black and white. Then the choruses come as an escape into a fantasy with a big burst of color.”

You can find photos of Jewel recording the video for her new single Good Day at Miss Hottie Boombalottie's MySpace page. Apparently the video was shot in New York on Tuesday.

I mentioned last month that Only One Too was being remixed by a number of DJs, these remixes are now beginning to surface online. You can hear the StoneBridge Classic Dub at StoneyBoy.com (scroll down to DJ Mixes for a link to an mp3), unfortunately this remix is lacking most of Jewel's vocals. A much better remix is the Lenny Bertoldo Club Mix which I think is better than the original song, I don't have a link to this at the moment.

5th June 2006

Here are a couple of very positive reviews of Goodbye Alice In Wonderland from WessexScene.co.uk (9.5/10) and CelebritiesWorldWide.com (10/10)...The song showcases Jewel's strength as a writer and depth as a singer. Her voice moves you through a variety of emotions.

Goodbye Alice In Wonderland is finally released in the UK today. As usual don't expect to find it in places like Asda or WH Smiths (where initially I was asked "who?", but then told by a wiser shop assistant that "we don't stock her". In other news, Again And Again failed to enter the UK Top 75 singles chart: I've heard rumours that it only managed to scrape into the Top 200 at 196, and if this is confirmed will go down in history as Jewel's worst ever single position.

4th June 2006

It's the eve of the release of Jewel's new album here in the UK and any promotion is hard to find: Goodbye Alice In Wonderland received three-star reviews in the July issues of Q and UNCUT magazines. Also you might have found some press ads in national newspapers including The Times on Saturday and The Mail On Sunday.

There's an eight-page feature on Jewel and her current boyfriend Ty Murray in the June issue of the US magazine InStyle. It includes a few pictures of Jewel and Ty, plus some of the unique decor of their Texas ranch...Jewel contributed the curtains, which she made out of grain sacks.

2nd June 2006

Jewel was a guest on the US programme Good Morning America in New York City this morning as part of their summer concert series. You can watch her sing Good Day from the show at the ABC News website.

Jewel, Thomas pop sets make for melodic evening from the Richmond Times-Dispatch...Looking skinny in straight jeans, Jewel centered herself in front of an enchanted-forest backdrop as candles flickered around the stage, setting the mood for a smooth "Foolish Games."

1st June 2006

Yesterday Jewel made a guest appearance on the US daytime soap The Young And The Restless, where she performed Again And Again and Good Day as part of a fictional fundraiser. You can see clips of the show, behind the scenes footage and an interview with Jewel at TV.com.

Jewel sparkles despite poor sound at nTelos from HamptonRoads.com...No rough edges on this diamond as she treated her fans to some of their favorites. Jewel's disarming stage manner and conversational tone appealed to the audience - a mellow, predominantly female crowd. It was apparently girls night out at nTelos.

Jewel enjoys it while she can from TimesLeader.com..."This is the first time on a record that I felt like I made the record I wanted to make where the studio didn't get in the way."

Jewel carves a new frontier from the Lansing State Journal...One early project required the students to give a room a layer of sawdust. "They didn't know how to shovel," Jewel said. "I didn't know that was something you had to learn. Everybody shovels, don't they?" Some rich art students don't.

Jewel, Ty Murray Live the Small Town Life from CMT.com...I really like it because I really like to be outside and write. I don't write real good when things are too noisy and too busy. We're both kind of hermits. We pretty much stay on the ranch all the time. There's like one movie theater, so we'll go to the movies.

29th May 2006

Jewel's new single Again And Again is finally released in the UK today. With minimal radio play and minimal promotion I expect this to be the worst performing debut single from an album Jewel has had here. The previous record holder is Standing Still which entered and peaked at #83 back in 2002. It's worth buying just for the unique acoustic version of Foolish Games.

26th May 2006

Jewel, Thomas take crowd back in time from palmbeachpost.com...As she generously offered up some of her more recent material in a modestly engaging hourlong performance, there were moments when she almost approximated the angry vibe of, say, Melissa Etheridge.

The official site of Major League Baseball (mlb.com) has video of an exclusive interview with Jewel and also acoustic versions of Again And Again and Satellite.

24th May 2006

So it's less than one week before the UK release of Again And Again and once again Jewel seems to be ignored by UK radio stations. I've only managed to find one radio station (Cool FM in Belfast) that has Jewel on their playlist. The company responsible for Jewel's radio promotion is Chapple Davis.

23rd May 2006

Don't forget that Jewel is scheduled to appear on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on CNBC tonight at 22:45. Also BBC 2 are showing Jewel's debut movie Ride With The Devil at 21:00 tomorrow night.

There's a review of Goodbye Alice In Wonderland in today's Guardian, it seems to be a bit premature since the album isn't expected for another two weeks, but it is fairly positive so at least that's a plus point.

HMV now have Again And Again listed on their database with a release date of 29th May, not sure if this is going to push back the release of the album. It looks like it's going to be a 2-track single with the B-side being an acoustic version of Foolish Games.

10th May 2006

There's a new interview with Jewel at the AT&T Blue Room where Jewel talks about the meaning behind her new album, the songwriting process and her forthcoming tour with Rob Thomas.

As expected Jewel's new album entered the US Billboard 200 top ten, reaching #8 after selling 82,000 copies. I guess this will be disappointing for Atlantic Records as it was rumoured that they had shipped 275,000 copies and expected first week sales of around 140,000 (according to Billboard magazine: 6th May 2006). Goodbye Alice In Wonderland also debuted on the Canadian album chart at #17.

9th May 2006

Chart update: this week Jewel's new album Goodbye Alice In Wonderland entered the Dutch Album Chart at #33; in the US the album is expected to enter the US Top Ten later this week; the single Again And Again has moved up the Australian singles chart to #38.

5th May 2006

It looks like Jewel has been moved again within the Warner UK music empire, I believe the new album will be released in the UK on the Korova record label.

4th May 2006

The memory tank has a few gallons of Jewel sloshing around in it from The San Diego Union-Tribune...standing outside the Innerchange Coffeehouse on Turquoise Street in north Pacific Beach, with my Tourmaline Surfing Park friends, on Thursday nights, waiting to get in to see this blond singer-songwriter everybody in the neighborhood was talking about.

3rd May 2006

You can watch Jewel's appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno at NBC.com when Jewel performed Again And Again; there's also a bonus performance of Good Day on the website. The programme is scheduled to be broadcast across Europe on Friday on CNBC.

It looks like that Only One Too could be released as a dance single in the near future. Apparently a number of remixers have mixed the song including StoneBridge and Lenny B.

2nd May 2006

Watch Jewel's performance for Walmart Soundcheck. She sings acoustic versions of Again and Again, Good Day, Goodbye Alice In Wonderland, Intuition and Break Me.

The many facets of Jewel from WFAA.com..."There are so many mercenary pop songwriters out there writing the most formulaic cheese whiz you can imagine," she says. "For me, it's how do you put a great melody together with really integral lyrics? That's the big game I've been trying to hunt since my first record."

10 Questions with Jewel from SheKnows.com...You know, I cannot believe I'm lucky enough to make a living doing something I enjoy -- you know, the tedium of doing a job where your heart isn't in it is insufferable. My heart really goes out to people who are doing something that they don't enjoy

Jewel leaves fairy tales for return to folksy roots from the Santa Barbara News-Press...I never expected fame to be fun. I was actually petrified. I was in a unique position of seeing some of the darker parts of humanity by the time I was 18. The same sharks and predators that were in civilian life, I expected them to be in the music industry.

Q&A: Jewel from Billboard.com...Which single is next? I think it's going to be "Good Day." I would be so thrilled if a [song in 3/4 time] made it onto the radio. It would be such a triumph.

LiveDaily Interview: Jewel from livedaily.com...If this is the end of your six-record deal, what are you doing next? I'm not sure. I'll either re-sign and continue to make records for a major label, or I might also go out on my own and try and make my own records. I've never really found singing to be the most fun part of my job. That's why I stay out of the spotlight.

26th April 2006

Wonderlands: An Interview with Jewel from Popmatters.com...I compared a lamp to a cloud, and that to me was just like -- I had finally been able to imitate this poet perfectly [laughs]. But for some reason, the idea of metaphor and analogy and synonym -- I don't know why but it really turns me on. I guess I was a boring little kid.
