******************************************** JeweLink - The Official Jewel Communications List ******************************************** Hi all, Although she's been on a break from her "New Wild West" solo acoustic tour this month, Jewel has kept herself quite immersed with writing and recording experimentation, as part of the early stages of preparation for her next album. Always one who refused to paint inside the lines or be pigeonholed into a clear-cut musical genre, Jewel's newest demos continue to blur the boundaries of her music with unbridled experimentation and adventurousness. Jewel's latest stop on the highway of music led her to Philadelphia, where she spent several days earlier this month collaborating and recording four new tracks with famed producers Jeff Townes (better known as DJ Jazzy Jeff), P-Nut (of 311 fame) and Pete Kuzma at A Touch Of Jazz Studios, which has been responsible for some of Philadelphia's most popular music, including Jill Scott, Bilal, Darius Rucker, Paula Abdul, Tatiani Ali and of course Will Smith, Jeff's longtime collaborator. Demos of Jewel's newest material show her exploring the fusion of hip hop, soul, reggae, jazz and European electronica into a mix quite unlike anything she has pursued before. Some of these experiments also exude an old-school rhythm-and-blues sophistication and a jazzish buoyancy unlike any of her previous recordings. While it remains to be seen where these writing collaborations and ongoing studio experimentation will lead, it's likely that Jewel's next album will prove to be a diverse collection of music that crosses all genres and her most eclectic album yet. We'll keep you informed as preproduction continues.
