Marmaduke Langdale

Portrait of Langdale. Born: 1598
Died: 1661
Allegiance: Royalist
Position: Brigade commander
Langdale was High Sheriff of Yorkshire before the civil wars, and had refused to pay ship money to the crown. Despite this, he joined the royalist cause at the outbreak of war.

He commanded a cavalry regiment for most of the 1st war, but led his own brigade in the later years.

Langdale fled to France after the 1st war, but returned with Charles II , also commanding a brigade of horse.

He was captured at Preston, but escaped abroad until the restoration.
