Getting
the most out of a computer room
Introduction
The purpose of these pages is to assist teachers using ICT in a
computer lab. They are intended not only for newcomers to teaching, but
also for established teachers who feel a bit nervous about taking a class of
pupils into a room full of computers.
The advice may come across as rather prescriptive. It
is intended as a basic set of procedures or ideas which should work in most
situations. However, there is rarely a single right way of doing things, and
it's always important to exercise one's own professional judgement, taking into
account prevailing conditions, such as the ethos of the school, one's own
personality and the nature of the class.
Please note that the advice given is not meant to be
comprehensive, but to be used as a starting point for discussion.
I hope you find these pages useful. If you do, there is related,
but wider-ranging, advice in my book, Managing ICT.
Also, you may like to subscribe to the free newsletter, Computers
in Classrooms, which shares ideas and good practice, and discusses issues
related to the use of (as you might have guessed) computers in classrooms.
