DB2 Admin/REXX Programmer DG Bank Munich Sep 1996 - April 1997
I did day to day administration and problem resolution of the SE tools for DB2 housekeeping. Provided maintenance and support for inhouse written REXX programs.
Automation Analyst Hoechst UK March 1996 - September 1996
I supported a home grown automation system while it was being replaced by AOC. Hoechst's MVS systems are a complex sysplex arrangement running under JES3. Because they ran so many systems automation was essential to their operations and needed constant minor adjustment. Changes had to be made with extreme care. I translated a lot of German documentation to English and provided 'cross language support'.
MVS and Network Sysprog British Gas April 1995 - January 1996
I provided cover for the network and MVS teams. I tailored and implemented AOC release 2 and Netview V2R3 to provide automation on an ES/9000 running MVS 4.3. Regenerated stand alone dump program. Solved day to day network problems. Performed enhancements to an Infoman based problem management system. Installed Librarian version 4.1. General system programming duties.
RACF System Programmer Unicible Lausanne April 1995
I analysed the RACF database uing SAS in preparation for its transfer and merger with another site. The working language was French
MVS System Programmer Readers Digest Jan 1995 - April 1995
I tailored APPC/MVS to communicate with OS2. I tailored OS2 Commmunications manager/2 to perform as a secondary LU. Installed ISPF V4 to exploit APPC/MVS GUI interface. I wrote a REXX program to update INFOMAN for 'PHONEDAY' using the HLAPI LU 6.2 interface.Paricipated in positioning excersize for MVS V5. Installed Tubes (multi session system), VPS (looks like JES328x), Strobe (application performance monitor). CA Librarian version 4.1. Version 5 of Fileaid. I wrote and tested an Endevor exit to prevent programs with the same name being loaded into different subsystems.I developed an ISPF dialog in REXX to replace an old Librarian based job submission system with one based on Endevor. Implemented LSERV to control access to Endevor datasets.
DB2 Support Programmer Post Office TV Licensing Section July 1994 - Jan 1995
I was part of a team which provided day to day support to the national TV licensing system. I installed the Hopewiser postcode lookup system. I amended old and complex, batch and CICS COBOL programs. I tested my changes with COBTEST and Intertest. I wrote over 80 SAS programs, including some to analyse SMF data and produce cost and performance statistics. I wrote QMF queries and procedures to satisfy ad-hoc user queries. I performed some DB2 DBA tasks such as setting up tables, synonyms and views and routine maintenance of the in-house restart recovery system. I performed the detailed design of and implemented a system to support chasing of licence defaulters by telephone. Routine use of DFSMS/DSS for bulk copying of datasets.
Network Specialist S.G. Warburg, London May 1994
I generated new NCP definitions, including NPSI and NTRI to cater for the group's network backup requirements. I wrote implemented and tested Netview clists and panels to allow operators to easily switch to the backup configurations.
Network Specialist Gateway Foodmarkets, Bristol UK. August 1993 - April 1994
I set up Netview DM for use in retrieving EFT data from over 500 of the companies stores. Performed necessary administration tasks on the 4680 controller in use at the stores. Set up RSM under CICS for communicating with the companies ICL equipped stores. Gateway had some special requirements which required me to write some COBOL programs to interface with ICL community file transfer product. I acquired a good knowledge of the Target 4 enhancements to RSM.
RACF Specialist Prudential Assurance London UK. April 1993 - August 1993
I planned all technical aspects of the conversion of the RACF database from the RACF 1.8 to RACF 1.9 format. I coded all the necessary jobs and performed the conversion. The companies database was large, complex and crucial to its operations so the exercise had to be done very carefully . There were a number of poorly documented exits in use at the site and some of these used release dependant macros. I analysed there use and made all necessary changes to accommodate the new database format.
DB2 Specialist TUI Hannover Germany. March 1992 - Feb. 1993
I was engaged as a consultant to suggest ways to alleviate problems with the overnight batch window. My most significant contribution was to suggest that VSAM files should not reorganised. This saved about one hour per night. Long running jobs which were not restartable also caused problems. Their use of VSAM files severely restricted their ability to use the built in DB2 restart capability. I evaluated several products which offered solutions to this problem. I wrote a system in assembler to provide restart/recovery capability.
Conversion Consultant Keos BV, Frankfurt Germany Jan. 1992 - March 1992
I worked on Keos's customer site, Berlinische Leben in Wiesbaden converting a punched card based DOS machine and all its application systems to MVS.
System Programmer Wm. Low & Co. Dundee Tayside July 1991 - October 1991
I set up a new DB2 subsystem for acceptance testing and managed changes to test, acceptance and production systems. I rearranged placement placement of DB2 system datasets for better recovery prospects and assisted database administrators with day to day problems. I installed RMF V4 with SMP/E. I wrote RACF exit to protect production initiators. To assist with storage management I wrote REXX execs to generate lists from the SMS (system Managed Storage) DCOLLECT command. I set JES2/NJE to communicate with Power/VSE running on a remote 370 machine.
System Programmer (RACF) Tesco PLC., Cheshunt Herts. Nov. 1990 - July 1991
I worked in the security administration department of Tesco. I audited and documented RACF exits which had been written by technical services. I set up ISPF dialogs to assist with day to day administration of RACF. I set up function based groups and used them to illustrate how they could be used to improve security and service to the users. I demonstrated how these groups could be linked to logon procedures to avoid a large set-up workload when users moved from one department to another.
MVS System Programmer Medicale de France, Paris April 1990 - Sep. 1990
I assisted Medicale with the hardware commissioning of a new Hitachi mainframe and installed the MVS SP2 CBIPO on it. I completely commissioned the software on the system. I installed RACF independently of the CBIPO and administered the new TSO user population. I helped with the training of their own system programmer, which I had to do in French as he spoke little English.
MVS System Programmer Courage Ltd., Acton, London January 1990 - April 1990
I assisted with the planning and execution of a major DASD reorganisation., including the installation of a 3380K DASD devices. I implemented the DASD pre-allocation exit (IGGPRE00) to prevent unauthorised access to DASD. I liaised with DB2 administration to ensure DB2 catalog, logs etc. were correctly placed to provide good recovery prospects. I sorted catalog catalog/VVDS problems which had resulted from cataloguing VSAM in the master catalog and had caused some long system outages. I advised on various issues relating to TSO userids which were causing problems in RACF administration. I assisted with the move to RACF 1.9 including reformatting of the database which we had to do several times in both directions.
System Programmer EFTPOS UK, Edgware London July 1987 - December 1989
I was jointly responsible for MVS and JES2 and solely responsible for VTAM and NCP. I installed and performed the extensive IVP procedures on DB2. I installed and implemented DFHSMI implemented the new TSO user feature of RACF 1.8, eliminating the need for the UADS dataset. I introduced the TSO/E application manager to the site. I designed and implemented a maintenance strategy for our two machines using only one copy of SMP/E and commissioned the software on a new 4381 at the Dunstable site. I installed NCP version 4.2 and commissioned a new 3725 to support a small network of one remote 3274. Later when the new 4381 came online this became a multi domain network and when member banks began to connect to it I devised a strategic SNI policy allowing us to connect to the clearing bakks networks using one central intermediate null network. I installed NCP version 5 and used it to commission a new 3745.
I implemented communications between the 370 mainframe and Tandem. I installed the RJE emulation software on the Tandem and executed all the mainframe changes to bring about RJE communications. I assessed then utility of sending real time data using the link and carried out various tests to gauge performance. I investigated the possibility of obtaining third party software to communicate with Netview DM. I designed and implemented a procedure whereby software configuration data could be off loaded from the Tandem and inserted into INFOMAN on the mainframe.
I installed INFOMAN and designed a software configuration to describe all software elements running on the System 88, Tandem and 370 mainframe. The system was operated throughout the lifetime of EFTPOS by a small team of administrators. I demonstrated INFOMAN to the system developers and showed them how it could be used to control their problem and change management much better than the PC based system then in use. I subsequently designed a problem and change system to emulate their PC panels to encourage them to use the mainframe. This they did with alacrity.
System Programmer East Midlands Gas Leicester UK. October 1986 - July 1987
I supported the network software (VTAM, NCP, VM/VTAM and NCCF). I set up cross domain communications between two MVS systems running under VM/XA using virtual CTC.'s. Set up, NJE. Integrated NMPF into NCCF. Set up scenario for full multi domain use of NCCF. Installed TPX (multi session software). Was responsible for routine maintenance of the network products. I installed Netview and NPM and customised them for use on the EMGAS system.
MVS/XA System Programmer British Telecom London UK. Oct. 1984 - Oct. 1986
I installed ISPF version 2, TSOE release 2, INFOMAN and various other INFO products. Set up the initial RACF configuration and passed it over to the administrators. Routine system software maintenance tasks. Support of development department.
OS/VS1 Sysprog Neddata BV. Rotterdam May 1984 - October 1984
I was solely responsible for the maintenance of OS/VS1 with TONE TSO (runs in one partition). BTAM based network.
Network Sysprog BHS Luton UK Oct.1983 - June 1984
I maintained all the network products then in use viz. ACF/VTAM, ACF/MSNF, NCCF, NPDA and PSS using SMP/4
MVS Sysprog Whitbread Reading UK. Jan.1983 - Oct. 1983
I designed and implemented CICS/IMS restart recovery for the companies order entry system.
