A Renewable and Sustainable Resource, hemp is a viable industrial and food crop, historically used for many different things, the shipping industry relied on it for rope and sail cloth, it was used for making clothes, even soft linen cloth, insulation and paper, among other things. It grows fast, faster than most other weeds, doesn't need lots of herbicide, it's pest resistant and requires little fertilizer. The oil from the seeds can be used for cooking (it's edible) and fuel (as in diesel). It's already a big industry in Eastern Europe, China, Russia and many other places. Expansion in UK is slowed by infrastructure problems, tho' processing equipment is being redeveloped today, we used to have a big hemp industry! When harvsted, the leaf matter can be left in the fields, returning nitrogen to the soil. It's also the strongest natural vegetable fibre known to humanity. Gerald Ford even made a car body out the stuff.
