Back: Shannon, Daryl, Liam Fenteman, Mark Duce, Mark Merritt, Matt Hazel, Phil Ridsdale, Leroy Watson, Andy Jackson, Matty Ridsdale, Simon Banoub, Simon Coen, Scott Lyons, John Newsome, Richard Harper.
Front: Nathan, Darren Bickersteth, Dave Ridsdale, James Hunt, Simon Parker (the camera's over here), Pete Guzdek, Lee Monaghan and LK, Woody.
A continuation of the decline which had set in over the previous two seasons,
though as ever the campaign was not without interest.
There were several splendid results in isolation,
a couple of impressive bursts of form,
but the league's pacemakers were scarcely troubled by HFFC's fading challange.
Rawdon did have some competition this season, but that was from other clubs,
and the gap between ourselves and the high-flyers was becoming ever wider.
We did reach the Semi-Final of the League Cup, losing narrowly,
and had another decent run in the Sunday District Cup,
but we were consigned to mid-table obscurity in the league,
simply not good enough for a team of our pedigree.
It was time to stand up and be counted.
James Hunt was afforded many opportunities to enhance his reputation in goal,
with a defence based on
Liam Fenteman, Phil Ridsdale, Steve Sedgwick and Simon Banoub.
Although John Steenson was out injured for most of the season,
Matt Hazel had developed to become a regular in the back line.
The midfield varied quite wildly at times.
As well as usual supects Lee Monaghan and Mark Duce,
aided and abetted by the likes of Simon Lee, Simon Coen and Dave Ridsdale,
we were able to call on the services of new midfielders of distinction,
such as Mark Merritt, Ben Avison and Leroy Watson,
while Andy Bowler had his best season for some while.
Regrettably, however, injury would keep Scott Lyons out for almost the whole campaign.
The attack was of course based on the phenomenon that is Simon Parker,
with John Newsome out for the first half of the season and Andy Jackson missing the latter.
Darren Bickersteth and Mark Wani were added to the pool of strikers.
The most severe problem we faced was a chronic inconsistency,
that derived from the endless team changes.
These in turn were forced on us by the unavailability of players,
which meant the club had little chance to develop anything like a settled side,
nor any notion of what our best team might actually be.
Hard to envisage any club challenge the likes of Rawdon and Shipley Town in such circumstances.
Highlight of the season would have to be the 6-0 derby win over Horsforth Rangers,
who were blown away by a huge margin even though they didn't play at all badly themselves.
Just one of those days,
and in 2003-04 there weren't many of them.
