This is a guide arranged by organisation to the various units and individual cars that are currently in private preservation.
London Transport Museum.
Currently on display at the museum in Covent Garden is a City & South London railway locomotive, number 13 and one of the original C&SLR 'padded cell' coaches, car number 30. Also on display is 1938 tube stock DM car 11182 and the rear section of a Great Northern, Piccadilly & Brompton Railway car.
The museum has a large number of items in store at various locations such as 1938 stock trailer 4929 and a DM car from the green livery 1986 experimental BREL tube train. A four car unit of 1938 stock is stored at Cockfosters depot and comprises of cars 10012, 11012 (DMs), 12048 (NDM) & Trailer 012256. One unusual item is electric sleet locomotive ESL107 which was converted by LT in 1939 by placing the front motored halves of two 1903 Central London Railway EMU DM cars back to back.
The museum also has at it's disposal a number of cars of pre-1938 standard stock many were reserved for the museum when withdrawn from departmental service with LUL whilst others were recovered from the Isle Of Wight when they were withdrawn from passenger service in 1988(as pictured below) also one DM car, number 3327,was gifted to the museum by the Science Museum. No decision has been made yet as to which vehicles from this stock will be restored for use/display by the museum.
Cravens Heritage Trains
This private group owns two complete units, the first is a 1960 stock cravens unit comprising of DMs 3906 & 3907 with converted 1938 stock trailer 4927 in between. This unit (pictured below left) is kept at Ruislip depot in an operational state and is run by LUL on charters and enthusiast specials over the tube and surface lines. The group also owns a spare converted 1938 stock trailer 4921. Also owned by the group is a four car unit of 1962 stock (pictured below right), this unit is the subject of group restoration work and will hopefully be running on a similar basis to the 1960 stock unit in the future, it is currently at Hainault Depot.

Essex Rail Traction Group
This group owns 1960 Cravens stock DM 3908 which is currently in store at Hainault depot. Under restoration at the Low Hall Museum in Walthamstow is 1967 stock Victoria Line DM car number 3016.
Alderney Railway - Channel Islands
The 1938 stock was well know for working almost everywhere on the tube network, few would have predicted a two car set would end up carrying passengers in the far reaches of the Channel Islands ! Two 1938 stock DM cars have, and still are, done that. They are numbers 10177 & 11177 and arrived at their current home in 1987 from previous use by the North Downs Steam Railway at Chatham Historic Dockyard where they were hauled by steam and diesel locos. The Alderney Railway uses them in the same way.
