Dalmatia Ragusa
Dubrovnik/Ragusa - Pile inlet/small bay. This is a small bay beneath the western part of city walls - a round fortress seen partially on the left-hand side is called Bokar (started in 1266, in its current form in 1461), and the rock on the right-hand side is called Penatur.
Photo was taken from the sea level, with view towards south.
The Dubrovnik's harbour for the line ships was/is at Gruu/Gravosa. The first modern hotel was "Grand Hotel Imperial" (heavily bombarded during the recent war in Croatia), situated just outside the Pile-gate on the western part of city walls. It was started in mid-1895, and opened on January 29, 1897. Therefore, this photo is probably the first one on a tour of the city starting from the "Imperial" hotel under construction.
