Ruins of the Early Christian basilica in Manastirine (IV-VI century A.D.), just outside the northern city walls, where St.Duje's - patron saint of Split - remnants were buried.

Solin/Salona was the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia until Avars and Slavs destroyed it in about 614 A.D. Last Western Roman emperor Julius Nepos ruled here from 475 A.D. (when he was deposed in Ravenna) to 480 A.D. (when he died). Salona was a strong center of early christianity.
