Herzegovina Mostar

Map 12 - Mostar: Old Centre

Street scene - photographed at the conjunction of Velika Tepa street and the Stari Most street, at the left bank of Neretva, close to the Old Bridge. In the background, the minaret of the Cejvan-Cehajina/Cheyvan-Chehaya's Mosque (oldest mosque existing today, built 1552/3) is seen. The buildings shown in the middle of the photo, do not exist today, and were probably torn down fairly early, since I could not find any record of them. A curious stucco decorations (of austrian provenance), and a kind of coat-of-arms, might be a clue for their more precise identification. A street-board, seen at the building with meander-like under-roof decoration, reads 'Stari Most/Old Bridge' in latinic, cyrillic and arabic letters.
The photo was taken from the corner of Velika Tepa and Old bridge streets, slightly inside the former, towards S-SW.
The group of (street?) workers, with mattocks and shovels, seen in the foreground are probably taking rest after a hard work, or contemplating the work to be done. There is another signboard, at the building to the left, but I cannot read it since the letters are only 4 pixels large
