ISLINGTON PROJECT

(photos by Tony Phillips)

December 2003 saw the formal opening of the first stage of Hilt’s supported housing in Islington. The opening was celebrated with a party at the new project on 2 December.

Hilt is working in partnership with the Community Housing Association and Islington Social Services to provide housing to 12 people in flats and a shared house . The Islington projects are based in Tufnell Park and Holloway. The housing is a combination of one, two and three bedroom flats in a converted Victorian double fronted house and a new purpose built house.

People stated to move in during November and most people will be in by February. People have come from very different places: from the family home; from residential care homes; and some from places outside London.

This is Hilt’s first service in Islington. At the opening we were very pleased to meet Islington’s Mayor, councillors and council officers, as well as families and service users.

The staff team has made an excellent start in helping people to settle in, get to know their new neighbourhood, and establish routines for themselves. Watch this space for more news about how they’re getting on.

MUSTON ROAD

Three of the six service users that were living at Albion Drive have moved into the new Muston House project due to the imminent closure of Albion Drive. The remaining three service users still at Albion Drive will be moving into new accomodation shortly.

GET WELL SOON

Susan Baldwin at Bethune was very unlucky to fall and break her arm just before Christmas. However, her arm is mending well. All the best to Susan from everyone at Hilt.
