A HARD DAY'S WORK
Phillip Alale was very excited to get a work experience
placement at the Green Pepper café in Haringey, run by
Haringey social Services and the Keston Day Centre.
Philip
started working at the café in March and goes in every
Tuesday from 10 am to 3pm. He does food preparation, shopping,
cleaning and writing menus. In fact he is involved in everything
to do with the running of the café. In return for his hard
work he is paid his travel expenses and gets a free lunch.
The managers have now recommended that he start NVQ level 2 catering
training at a café in a new health complex in Tottenham.
Phillip really loves what he is doing as it feels like a proper
job.

BATTLE OF THE BARBEQUES
HILT’s Outreach Team has been at the centre of a whirlwind
of social activity as usual. Staff and volunteers organised a
series of sizzling summer barbeques for service users.
Outreach volunteer, Lancelot Lefebvre, started the craze by inviting
staff and service users over to a barbeque at the house he shares
with Karl Purdon.
Karl,
HILT’s resident actor, has recently started attending summer
college classes. He was able to share his experiences and some
great summer grub with friends including Irma, Clare, Derek, Simon,
Kehinde, Jo and Hannah.
The barbeque also provided an opportunity for service users and
volunteers to say a fond farewell to Ulrike Adeneuer-Chima, an
Outreach Support worker who has worked for HILT for nine years.
Everyone at HILT wishes Ulrike good luck and best wishes in her
new career in the Health Service.
Not to be outdone, Outreach service users, Nathan and Patrick
organised a barbeque at the house they share with their volunteer,
Adrian. In spite of the rain, this was another great success and
was shortly followed………….by yet another
barbeque over at Karl’s place.
We wonder if, after all these barbeques, exercise classes will
be the next craze for Outreach service users!
OH
BABY!
Service user, Nathan Hylton, successfully delivered his
girlfriend's baby on Saturday 24th July at his home when she suddenly
went into labour. He was helped by his flat mate Patrick Maloney.
Mother, baby and Nathan then went to hospital by ambulance. Patrick
stayed at home and tidied up Nathan's room.
FANTASTIC FLORIDA VACATION
Peter Peterson chose Florida, America for his recent summer vacation.
He had a fantastic time during his 2 weeks and visited many attractions
including Disney land, Seaworld and the Keys. He traveled with
Options Holidays, who provided all of his support (click
