Social Services.

event, including a number of people from HILT.

HILT had a stall at the event to give information about the organisation
to anyone who was interested.
Jackie Lewis gave a demonstration of her computer skills, and
Ian Bond, HILT’s Outreach Manager chaired a lively debate
about the quality of services that people receive in Hackney.
Many
of HILT’s service users attended and took part in the debate,
including Betty Steingold, Kehinde Ogundeji Chris Coakley, Nick
McGivern, Karl Purdon, Clare Grant and Irma Henry.
There were performances of music and dancing throughout the day,
including Kurdish Folk dancing and traditional African drumming.
Food and drink were provided and the event was attended by staff
from many different organisations.
MAKING PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
The first of three planning workshops was held on Saturday 20
March at Hilt Central. The theme of this first workshop was Quality.
Service users and staff came to celebrate the things that Hilt
is doing well and to make plans for the forthcoming year. Prizes
were given to the best ideas. The other
two workshops will be held shortly. They will cover Training and
Service User Involvement.
VOLUNTEER AWARDS
Five of HILT’s volunteers received awards at a ceremony held
at Hackney Town Hall on 30th March. The awards were presented to
HILT volunteers for their involvement in the Millennium Volunteers
Scheme (

This scheme is run by the government in order to recognise the
achievements of young volunteers (aged 16-24).
The awards ceremony was organised by Hackney Youth Service and
was part of a celebration of the achievements of Hackney’s
young people
Awards
were presented to volunteers from different youth organisations
in Hackney including Connexions and The Huddleston Centre.
There were performances from rapper Ice-Burg Slim and reggae
artiste Pete Campbell among others. Everyone went home well-fed
as a special buffet was laid at the end of the night.
COME
& MAKE JIGSAW PUZZLES
A film company is looking for people to make a jigsaw puzzle of
a place and answer a few questions about the jigsaw picture. The
answers will form the basis of the film’s soundtrack and
will be read by an actor. The participants will later be asked
to watch the film and talk about how it makes them feel. No filming
of participants will take place.
The puzzlemaking sessions offer a relaxing situation in which
to reflect and share time.
The film will be submitted to festivals around the world.
