Our Services - Background Information
Who we work with
The only criteria for someone to become a Hilt service user are
that they have a learning difficulty. We recognise there are often
added needs such as physical or sensory disabilities, mental illness,
or challenging behaviour. We believe that we have a positive reputation
for adapting the way that we work to suit the needs of the person.
We have had significant success in sustaining long term placements
for people who are often very challenging to services. Our approach
is a non-aversive one, finding ways to promote a good quality of
life with a high degree of engagement in meaningful and enjoyable
activities. We work closely with other practitioners to ensure that
the support that we offer is tailored to the individual.
The area we cover
Hilts own housing is in the London Boroughs of Hackney, Tower Hamlets
and Islington.
We can take referrals from anywhere for people who want to use
our housing and support services. We currently provide housing to
people from London, Sussex and Surrey.
Our Services
REGISTERED CARE HOMES

Hilt has 5 registered homes, housing between three and eight people.
Three of these homes offer wheelchair accessibility.
The houses vary widely in the amount of support available. Staffing
levels can veer from one person on duty to four service users, to
one to one staffing for people who require that level of support.
All of these homes are registered with the Commission for Social
Care Inspection..

SUPPORTED LIVING
We support people in a wide range of supported housing, in Hackney,
Islington and Tower Hamlets, ranging from self contained flats to
shared houses, in older properties to purpose built accommodation.
Support varies and depends entirely on the individual, so while
some people have minimal support, other have someone to support
them around all the time. Many of the properties have a high level
of access for people who also have physical disabilities.

DAY SERVICES

Hilt has a substantial service supporting people to take part in
a very broad range of activities. Most are centred on leisure and
learning, although employment is becoming more prominent in the
work of this team. The service works with families, providing respite,
as well as with users who are in Hilt housing or other care settings.
We also support people with autism and have developed a small specialised
service to help people with autism who live with their families
to find things that they want to do during the day.

Our costs
Because the costs of our service range significantly according
to the needs of the person and the service required, they cannot
be standardised easily. For more information on costs, e-mail your
details to: info@hilt.org.uk.
We will reply with an estimated cost of the service that you are interested
in.
How do we know how good the service is?
Quality and value are becoming increasingly important to funders and we recognise
the need for specific and objective evidence of achievement. Our
approach to quality is to have a mixture of quantitative, factual
information and impressionistic feedback from service users, staff,
partners and families. For example, we will provide you with data
to show how many hours support a person has received or how many
activities they have been offered, together with people's views
about quality or video evidence.
Currently we report back on achievements in three ways:
- Through individual reviews for each service user
- Through written reports for primary funders
- Through presentations to all involved in particular services
- Through use of the PQasso Quality Assurance Tool
We are looking to improve the feedback that we give to people about our services
in a number of ways. The website is one of them. Look at the rest
of the website to see people's stories - these show what people
are achieving with our support.
