Richard
Brattan
Volunteer Co-ordinator
I manage Hilt’s Volunteer Scheme. I’m
responsible for recruiting volunteers, supporting them while they’re
here, and for promoting Hilt’s work in order to attract more
volunteers.
I studied a foundation course in Art and Design at
college before specialising in film and photography for my degree.
The degree helped me to develop skills useful in some of the promotional
work that I have undertaken for Hilt. I have previous experience
of recruiting staff and volunteers in social care. I have also worked
editing an audio newspaper for blind people and in a small art gallery.
Past studies and work experience have been connected
to different methods of communication. They have helped me to develop
an interest in different cultures. This is handy, as my job at Hilt
brings me into contact with people from all over the world.
In 2004 I completed an MA in Digital Art. This involved
studying web design and information management as well as lots of
theory. The MA has helped in my work at Hilt. I have developed an
interactive learning package to use for the induction of new volunteers.
I am managing Hilt's website and database while the Information
Officer is on maternity leave.
