St. Aidan's Mission Statement

As approved by the Parochial Church Council on 31 August 1996

We the People of St Aidan's Parish Church in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic Tranquillity, provide for our common Witness, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of God's Kingdom to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this unanimous Mission Statement for the worshipping Body of Christ in this place.

Article One: Goals

St. Aidan's must become a mission church firmly grounded in its locality in what has now become the geographical centre of North East Lincolnshire.
St. Aidan's must seek and develop her own resources and subsidies for mission and maintenance.
St. Aidan's must develop a deepening prayer, educational and spiritual life so that any growth can be monitored, owned and evaluated by the whole of the people.

Article Two: Tasks

Section One.
Our Immediate Tasks are:

  • Change significantly the management of our resources.
  • Concentrate on a period of deepening in our worship and exploration in our Christian education, especially for adults, for up to five years.
  • Develop slowly, prayerfully and carefully our music and liturgy in our main worship in ways that are not utilised by any church in the Deanery so that people will have a clear choice and ease of access and St. Aidan's will be easily known and recognised as a church FOR THE PEOPLE.

Section Two.
Our Continual Tasks will be:
To engage in partnership with effective churches and programmes with mission to our locality in mind.
To build a network of support within the larger community which supports goodwill and encourages their identification with St. Aidan's especially through:

  • St. Aidan's Community Centre Enhancement
  • Basic Parenting and Preschool
  • Elliston Street and Queen Mary Primary Schools
  • Youth Work and Support
  • Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals procedure and support

Article Three: Process

Being mindful of our limitations and the importance of a shared ministry among all and for all we the people of St Aidan's will undertake to:

  • Assess each programme at six month intervals with each participant given a fixed-term agreement.
  • Assess progress and difficulties of each program and team in precise reporting to the Parochial Church Council.
  • Assess the speed of change and liturgical reform always with mission to our locality in mind.
  • Open the process of assessment and ideas to the entire parish in a yearly parish lunch and forum at the time of our laying of the cornerstone (4 May 1905).

See the establishment of church planting within the walls of St. Aidan's so that distinct choices are made in worship for our locality.
