Pierre-Jean Luizard (Born in Paris in 1954) is a French researcher at the Centre National des Langues et Civilisations Scientifique (CNRS) and a professor at the Institut National des Langues at Civilisations Orientals (INALCO-PARIS). He specialised in contemporary history of Islam in the Arab Middle East. He has published "La formation de l'Irak contemporain. Le role politique des ulema chiites a la fin de la domination ottomane et au moment de la creation de l'etat Irakien" - CNRS - PARIS 1991. He is the author of many articles on Egypt (Al-Azhar and Sufi brotherhoods) and Iraq, and about the history of Islamic reformism.
