| The Green Man is a frequent but rarely-seen inhabitant of our ancient churches and landscapes. As the Cerne Abbas Giant he stands in unmistakable masculine splendour on his green hill in Dorset; but much more often, he hides among the foliage, as here in York Minster. I thought the picture I had taken of him was really clear, but when preparing it, I found he had hidden himself again, and it was only with some reluctance on both our parts that he has agreed to present himself here. | |
