I have loved Indonesia, its islands, food, colours, textures, smells, corals, brilliant fish, dances, music, gongs, temples, palaces, and of course its peoples ever since my first visit (and probably long before that). Here is a gentle tour of some patterns which evoke for me some of those feelings. I had fun making the friezes.
Some more glimpses of Indonesia can be found in the Weavings library ( Songket Sarong, Lombok; Mamasa Blanket, Sulawesi), and also in the largely Indonesian textile traditions of Batik and Ikat.
