![]() ![]() ![]() | This dazzling semiregular tessellation has 3 triangles and two squares at each vertex, arranged in the Schläfi formula 32.4.3.4. The February 1999 issue of Scientific American reveals a further suprise: this pattern can be folded to give unit cells of 2, 4, 6, or 8 squares per cell, and if wrapped around a cylinder, the pattern describes the way in which an overloaded cylinder buckles as it collapses. |
