Tilings

Man-made objects acquire natural colours and patterns through the materials they are made of, through ageing and weathering, and just by being arranged according to the demands of nature to form walls and rooves that stand up. Tessellation is a fascinating mathematical subject, closely related to the design of tilings. The tilings on this website are based on the square and occur in a plane (a flat surface). More exotic possibilities exist!
