In an answer to Deism, Halyburton shows that the light of nature (i.e., knowledge derived from a study of nature) is insufficient in its revelation of the character of God. Nor can we determine from nature what would would fulfil man's true nature as made in the image of God, and and what would provide for man's true happiness. Nor can we deduce from nature how worship ought to be rendered to God and what should this worship consist of, or what are the rules of duty and the motives to obedience to God. Further, the light of nature is unable to reveal the means of obtaining pardon for sin. For all these reasons and more, this is why we need the Holy Scriptures....
