Dempster - The Place

One of the joys of the Internet is the number of co-incidental discoveries that one makes. This includes the fact that there is actually a place called DEMPSTER. It is in South Dakota, about 60 miles north of Sioux Falls and takes its name from one of the pioneer gold prospectors who rushed to the Black Hills when gold was discovered there. The story of James Dempster and his companions used to be available on one of the sites about the early days of the Black Hills gold rush, but now seems to have gone.

Sadly, Dempster, the place seems to be going the same way - the population of this rather dispersed rural community is now down to about 30.

A photographic tour of Dempster can be found at John's Aging Page O'Crap
