Charles Stewart (Stewie) Dempster (1903-1974) - One of the all-time cricket greats

Charles Stewart Dempster

Every family should have a sporting hero, and for the Dempsters, it's Charles Stewart (Stewie) Dempster, the New Zealand opening batsman who was the first New Zealander to score a test century (136 in 1930) and has been considered by some second only to Don Bradman.

In 26 years of cricket for New Zealand, Leicestershire, Warwickshire and various New Zealand teams, he proved one of the finest batsmen in an age of cricketing greats, and went on to coach the game until the 1970s.
