Dempsters Under Arms

The idea for this section is based on the third volume of the "Book of the Gordons" by J.M. Bulloch, "the Prince of the Howkers" which was a list of all Gordons whom he could find who had served in the army - any army.

Bulloch's book was written before two world wars and large scale conscription hugely increased the numbers of people who served in the military, but the idea is still sound.

All the people in this section should have the surname Dempster, so it is sorted by first name, and where first names are the same, roughly by date. If a surname is not Dempster it is given in italics. An accompanying paragraph aims to give details of military service with - at least - rank and regiment.
