The Journal has a map and travel details,
and a BOOG special offers price list from Resolution Computers.
The last couple of meetings, Barrie has Shanghaied Geoff Bogle in Manchester
at some unearthly hour so he sets up Resolution's stall of goodies at 9am(!),
but to avoid disappointment (or delay and carriage charges),
contact Geoff in advance with your requirements
on (0161) 797 3052 (tel); (0161) 763 4878 (fax).
Picture report of Feb 98 St Albans meeting.
Read on for area and travel information:
St Michael's Church Hall is in an attractive,
ancient and secluded part of St Albans,
at the west end of Verulamium Park,
next to the Verulamium (Roman) Museum.
Parking 40p all day.
Many of us will be lunching in one of the excellent old local pubs,
but if the weather is fine you can bring your sandwiches
and go and feed the ducks in the park.
Or do other things:
St Albans tourism page.
There are
supermarkets close by
(Sainsbury's with petrol, and Waitrose),
and the town centre has a Saturday street market.
How to get there:
St Michael's is on the west side of St Albans, just inside the ring road.
By car
the museum is signposted with a Roman helmet logo from the ring road.
Drivers from the northeast follow the ring road anticlockwise until
you cross the A5183 Redbourn Road at a large roundabout,
then take the next left: the car park is on the right after the church.
From the southbound M1, leave at junction 9, turn left onto the A5183,
continue to St Albans and turn right onto the ring road, then first left.
Drivers from the south note that the St Michaels St junction is
No Right Turn from the ring road northbound,
so follow the signs, go past, and turn back at the A5183 roundabout.
By rail
the nearest station is St Albans Abbey,
on the branch line from Watford Junction,
but this will leave you with a long walk (3/4 mile) along the River Ver,
through Westminster Lodge and past the Verulamium lakes
- pleasant on a sunny day.
Train and bus times were as follows, but you had better check...
The Abbey Flyer shuttle trains at 9:01 and every 45 minutes thereafter from Watford Junction,
journey time 16 minutes, depart St Albans Abbey 4 minutes later.
St Albans City on the Thameslink service
is about 1 1/2 miles from St Michaels.
The only bus is the Sovereign route 330: hourly, 27 minutes past the hour
from the City Station, 32 minutes past at town centre bus stop 11,
39 minutes past in St Michaels Village.
Trains from Kings Cross Thameslink at
45 minutes past the hour (fast, St Albans City 9 minutes past),
49 past (stopping, St Albans City 21 minutes past), and
on the hour (fast, St Albans City 24 minutes past)
should connect.
