Where Have All the Good Times Gone? -
the rise and fall of the record industry
to be published by Atlantic Books in February 2004
Happy the man who is paid for his hobby. For years I've been obsessed with records. Not just the music and the musicians, but everything else. Where was Hayes, Middlesex? What was Super Emitex? So, when the prospect of writing a book about the history of the business came up, I jumped at it. Just over 2 years later, the manuscript has been completed, subjected to the editor's blue pencil and is due to come out next year. Unsurprisingly, with all of the headlines about Internet piracy and falling profit margins for the major labels, the ending of the book is pessimistic, but there should be more than enough jolly anecdotes and details in the first 120-odd years of the industry's history to put smiles on readers' faces.

Nearer the date of publication, this page will be filled with extracts from the book, bits and pieces that I couldn't fit into the book, and the means by which the book can be bought.
