Over our many years of roleplaying we've gone through some amazing games, most of which were run by either Jonathan Hicks, Paul Squire, Jason Brown or Louis Turfrey. But the games were never as much fun as those held at Paul's house on Sunday evenings in Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield back in the mid 1990's. With notes flying between the players thick and fast, ideas gathering at pace and plots being devised, they were unruly, funny and chaotic. And yet many of the ideas and situations on Lightsabre came from those days. The whole concept of a Setnin Sector Sourcebook for use in the RPG's was the inspiration for the guides section of Lightsabre. So, in anticipation of a whole new raft of Thursday night group sessions, here are some images from those halcyon gaming days.

The gang circa 1993 - Louis Turfrey (Nias Derril), Darren Houghton (Mister Joshua), Paul Squire (Ryath Centaur), Mark Newbold (Jan Lomona). Independent viewers please note the lack of wrapper on the drinks bottle, due to the earlier appearance of the infamous Coca-Cola Man...

Andy Curtis (Luschia Arkensaw), either counting his characters brain cells or preparing to order TWO pints...

Jonathan Hicks (Goah Galletti) making the worlds lamest suicide attempt
Not surprisingly, many notes and character sheets still exist from this time of gaming, and these games continued regularly for another four years. Melanie Green (Valkyrie) joined the group, which added an interesting dynamic to the games. In 1996 Darren married, moved and dropped out of regular gaming, as had previous gamers Nick Gilmore (Java Midwinter), Paul Gilbert (Bazillicon Doron) and the rest of Peach Squadron (Dave Shields, Rob Oult, Phil Thompson). Despite marrying in 1996 Louis continued to game, as did Jason Brown until 2000, after a final run as GM. Mark fell away from gaming, as did Mel. Finally the group whittled down to regular games between Jonathan, Andy and Paul, all hardcore gamers who had been playing many other games and systems apart from simply Star Wars.
And so to the present. With Lightsabre doing so well and people settled into their families, jobs and homes (Paul, Louis, Andy and Darren are now married. Louis, Darren, Andy and Jason have children and all are home owners) the time has come to resume the group scenarios. And the highlights of those games will be appearing on Lightsabre, both in the stories and guides as well as brief run-throughs of each Thursdays gaming.
And who knows - maybe we'll be able to get the whole 1993 gang back together for a tenth anniversary scenario. And a photo to show how old we've all got...
