GUIDE TO THE SLANG OF THE SETNIN SECTOR

The following list is a representation of the most common words used by the denizens of the Setnin Sector to colourfully express their feelings or describe an individual or situation. The words cover Sector-wide use but there can be variants depending on the area of the Sector you are in. These are the common usages.

 

Each word or phrase has a description followed by an (example).

 

 

Bite the Big One To be killed, to die. (‘Goah has bit the big one!’)

 

Blastin’­Good. Excellent. To describe something as enjoyable. (‘That speeder race was blastin’!’)

 

Chipped – Someone who is very intelligent. (‘That guy’s so smart he’s chipped’ / ‘Ask Yullm, he’s chipped’)

 

Diver – Someone who ducks out of trouble without really trying to overcome it. (‘Dodge backed out of this mission. He’s nothing but a diver’)

 

Freck – This word has many different meanings to many different species, but it seems to have several different meanings. It can describe an idiot, a movement, and certain species mating rituals; a variety of things. Hence, it is used quite prominently for different reasons. (‘Who the freck are you?’ / ‘Where the freck am I?’ / ‘Freck off’ / ‘You’re a frecking idiot’ / ‘I don’t give a freck’ / ‘We’re frecked’ /  ‘What a stupid frecker’ / ‘Oh, freck’ / ‘Freck it’)

 

Fumehead  - An idiot. Someone who does something stupid. (‘Glann just blew thirty grand on nothing. What a fumehead’)

 

Gun Nut – Someone who uses their weapons to solve their problems. (‘Luschia just blew away Predd Jason during peace talks. She’s nothing but a gun nut’)

 

Jacker – Another word for someone who steals starships. (‘Nias Derril is the best jacker I know’ / ‘Nias just jacked my ship!’)

 

Kill the Thrusters­ To slow down. Usually used to calm someone after they become anxious. (‘I know he just stole you’re ship but you need to calm down. Kill the thrusters, man’ / ‘You’re rushing this job, you need to kill the thrusters’)

 

Naaven – A mole. Someone who works within an organisation and sells information to a competitor. Named after the man who sold information about Glann Cipple’s operation. (‘I think he just informed the other gang about our trade run. He must be our Naaven’)

 

Scav – To steal something. (‘I going to scav his speeder’ / ‘I’m scavving his speeder’ / ‘He just scavved my speeder!’)

 

Scorcher­- A good idea. (‘That idea Ryath had is a scorcher!’)

 

Slimer­ – Someone who uses lecherous methods to get their own way. (‘That guy just tried to chat me up for credits. What a slimer’)

 

Sniffer An official investigator. Usually refers to government agents, like the I.S.B or the Shadow Warriors. (‘Watch it, we’re being tailed by a sniffer’)

 

Take the HitTo lose out to a competitor. (‘Mister Spyte got the contract before I did so I’ve had to take the hit’)

 

Two-Toed Tree Rat – Refers to someone who is clumsy. (‘Latti dropped drinks all over Frans. The guy’s a two-toed tree rat’)

 

Waker­ – Someone who follows someone else about to learn from them. (‘That new Goah kid is my waker’)

 

Wired – Someone who is in the know about otherwise secret dealings, or someone who knows a lot about the goings on of an area. (‘Ask Grin about that, he’s wired’)
