This midi file was originally realized on a Roland JX-10 and an Ensoniq ESQ-M. I used an Alesis MMT-8 digital sequencer to record the real-time performance of J.S. Bach's third Brandenburg concerto. The sequenced material was then transferred to Sequencer Plus Gold tm for fine tuning the internal dynamics of my performance. The original file was in two parts, bburg3a.mid and bburg3b.mid. The third Brandenburg concerto lends itself well to splitting into two separate files since each file represents a unique movement within the whole frame of the piece. All of my original work was done in 1991 using the above equipment and a book containing all six Brandenburg concertos. In 1995, I attempted to merge the original two files into a single midi file. This was accomplished using Recording Session by Midisoft Corporation. For your convenience, I will include the midi channel assignments, general midi names, in parentheses, and program change numbers for each instrument: Violino = Channel 2 = (Strings1) 48 Viola = Channel 1 = (Viola) 41 Violoncello = Channel 3 = (Cello) 42 Violone e Cembalo = Channel 4 = (Contrbass) 43 Double Bass = Channel 5 = (Contrbass) 43 The initial tempo is set to (relative) 71. This tempo is in effect from measure 1 beat 1 tick 1 to measure 279 beat 2 tick 94. The time signature changes from 2/4 to 12/8 at measure 282. The new tempo of 240 is in effect from measure 282 beat 1 tick 1 to measure 378 beat 12 tick 96. These values were obtained from Midisoft's Recording Session program. You, of course, are not bound by these channel assignments. If you are using a sampling synthesizer, like the Ensoniq EPS-16, you will achieve fullest realization of sonic quality. Many scholars consider these six works of J.S. Bach to be the finest concerti grosso ever conceived. It is with deep reverence for the creator of Bach, and indeed each of us, that I present my own performance of this great work. For those of you who might be interested in the musical source, I will list it below: Johann Sebastian Bach The Six Brandenburg Concertos and the Four Orchestral Suites in Full Score From the Bach-Gesellschaft Edition Dover Publications, Inc., New York Copyright 1976 ISBN: 0-486-23376-6 Library of Congress Catalog Card Number: 76-12016 One final note: If you choose a versitile sequencer program, you will be able to modify my performance dynamics. I admit that the dynamics could use considerable work. In any event if you are as much a devoté of J.S. Bach as I am, it is possible that you will enjoy this file and the hours of effort that went into performing it.
