An apparantly fabricated interview with Sarah appears in the Jan/Feb '97 issue of ESCAPE, "interactive entertainment for men", which claims that "Sarah Blackwood, the gorgeous lead singer with up-and-coming indie dance combo Dubstar dips into the Net from time to time". Among other spicy tit-bits, the article quotes Sarah as saying "We saw an hilarious Kylie page - it was just a wanking page for dirty old men!"
The first that Neil's Dubstar Web Garden heard about all this was when a message from a fuming Kylie fan arrived, threatening to "come round and sing 'I Should Be So Lucky' outside Sarah's door". Being the civic-minded sort of chap I am, I thought Steve ought to be warned of the impending doom awaiting our Sarah, and so duly forwarded the complaint in question.
Steve replied, "I've just shown Sarah your e-mail and she is perplexed. This is because Sarah has never used the internet let alone seen a Kylie Minogue site. I can only imagine that someone has made up a quote on her behalf and not consulted her." He goes on to say, "If you could pass this message on she would be grateful, and to make up for this insult to Kylie fans you could also mention that I did the promotion on "I should be so lucky" when I worked at Pinnacle records in 1987/8 (and won a New Order football for helping to make it Kylie's first no1)."
Je ne sais pas pourquoi Escape decided to pick on Sarah (or Kylie, for that matter - after all, she used to be quite good, as anyone with a copy of 'Made In Heaven' or 'I'll Still Be Loving You' will testify). However, you have to credit them for the depth of their research - they even refer to Dubstar's internet appearance from the Reading Festival, adding the prize quote, "People are really saucy - these blokes asking for my phone number and being dead flirty".
So it's rare Kylie b-sides to everyone except Escape, who win a burst 3T paddling-pool for their efforts.
