latest news from steve hillier (30/10/96)

There is a GARY NUMAN tribute album out shortly which will feature DUBSTAR's version of 'EVERYDAY I DIE', a track from the first TUBEWAY ARMY album from 1978. It's quite similar to the version the band played at their gigs during the earlier part of this year, and was recorded in NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, ENGLAND in the band's own studio 'STINK CENTRAL'. The whole session took four hours to record and mix and features a guest vocal from an APPLE MACINTOSH computer believe it or not. The band listened to a lot of GARY NUMAN during their first tour in 1995 and this track became a favourite due to it's interesting lyric ( and the constant references to death of course!).

The band is working with STEPHEN HAGUE again on the as yet untitled new album, and will be recording in WOODSTOCK N.Y. in the USA this winter to finish it. An early release in '97 is expected, with a new single to precede it. Titles for new songs include I WILL BE YOUR GIRLFRIEND, SAY THE WORST THING FIRST, IT'S CLEAR, MY START IN WALLSEND, WEARCHEST, IT'S OVER and many more. PAUL WADSWORTH is featured on many tracks, introducing live drumming to some of the songs ( the only DUBSTAR song with live drumming previous to this being POPDORIAN).

Moves to organise a proper American release of DUBSTAR material are coming along nicely. Although it would be inappropriate to go into details at this stage, the first release may be as soon as spring 97 ( which is fast work, trust me!). This will be accompanied by live shows in some form and various other promotional activities. In the mean time, anyone attempting to get hold of DUBSTAR material outside of the UK and other nations which are currently stocking the band's releases should try contacting any of the various export companies that advertise in the classified pages of NME. These companies seem to have a good stock of albums and singles which they will mail anywhere in the world...best of luck!

DUBSTAR are currently on tour with ERASURE in the UK and EIRE. With most of the band having been ERASURE fans for a long time, they are enjoying it immensely.

There will be an online ordering service for merchandise very soon, but whilst this is being setup, anybody wanting info about DUBSTAR t-shirts should e-mail STEVE HILLIER (stephenhillier@easynet.so.uk).
