(new pictures of Jesmond Dene added)
Baffled by these references to Tyneside, Wallsend, Geordies and Jesmond Dean? I'll attempt to explain..
TYNESIDE
is the area around the river Tyne
in the north-east of England, where you will find the city of
Newcastle-upon-Tyne, home of Dubstar until recently (and where I studied, until
recently!), and also Wallsend, a small town on the coast.
WALLSEND
is a small town on the coast.
See TYNESIDE...
GEORDIES
are the people who come from
TYNESIDE. Attempting to define a true Geordie is like trying to define a true
Cockney, and I wouldn't dare even attempt it. But they say things like "Why
aye man" ("yes"), "ah ya gannin yem?" ("are you
going home?"), "Toon Army!" ("Newcastle United Football Club")
and "netty" ("toilet").
JESMOND DEAN
is a charming little wooded
valley near the heart of Newcastle, a beautiful place to go for walks and
absolutely enchanting in the snow.. I can't wait to hear Polestar! And I've even
got some pictures of it (lifted from various Newcastle University
prospectuses...
