Pip Ives

Pip Ives was born in Hastings in 1987. He has been brought up with music in his blood since he was born, being taken to many Catsfield Steamers bookings when his dad was their sound engineer.

He took up the Anglo concertina at six years old, and had his first melodeon bought for him when he was eight. By this time, he was hooked on traditional music. Very soon he started playing with Sussex Spinning Jenny clog side, based in Bexhill.

Pip has been to many festivals, including Wimbourne, Swanage, Middlewich, Faversham, Broadstairs and numerous trips to Ireland performing at the Bray International dance and music festival with or without the morris sides. He has played support to John Kirkpatrick twice, once in Hastings and once at the Chiddingly festival. He has been to Melodeons at Witney for four years and has played in many sessions around the country with people including Tim van Eyken, Tim Edey, Chris Parkinson and others.

Pip has now taken up the mandolin and can be seen playing for Daisy Roots morris in and around Hastings. Pip is also a member of the Spinning Jenny celidh band. He is actively involved in the Jack in the Green weekend at Hastings, where you will find him playing for one of the host morris teams or running one of the programmed music sessions.

He would eventually like to follow a career as a professional musician, concentrating on traditional music.

Once he has left school, Pip intends to continue with his traditional music studies at college and hopes to attend the degree course currently being run at Newcastle University.
