In 2000 seven students in their final year at Claverham Community College formed the band. Mumm-Ra's live performances can turn from an intricate, carefully constructed melodic arrangement into an incredibly vast and hard-edged noise. Mumm-Ra was part of the Hastings Rhythmix project and had the opportunity of performing at the De La Warr Pavilion, and as part of the Battle Festival. They were in the Stable contest with over 60 Kent and Sussex bands at the Forum, Tunbridge Wells. They came second in the final and as a result were support to one of their idols, Crispian Mills' (of Kula Shaker) new band, Thejeevas, They play regularly at the Forum and are gaining even more followers. Their recent numbers show the band entering more powerful complex arrangements as with an Arabian Song or the bizarre Fool and they still play a range from lush intricate ballads to catchy pop songs, taking in sci-fi tunes and chest shattering epics.
