PRESS RELEASE NOT FOR RELEASE BEFORE MARCH '99

BLACK HORSE '99 "THE BIGGEST LITTLE FESTIVAL IN BRITAIN"

The organizers of the festival say May 28, 29, 30, and 31 will see GOOD MUSIC, GOOD TIMES, GOOD FOLK, GOOD BLUES, GREAT WORLD MUSIC, YOUNG MUSICIANS AND PERFORMERS, SKA AND SOUL at another annual four day party.

The Black Horse Folk Club, once a popular event where they raised the roof every Saturday night until it finally fell in was the reason for the first reunion that grew into the best four day festival in the area. That was ten years ago. Richard Digence and other "folk" names came to the last night, not because he had been especially invited. He had not. Like myself Digence and the others realized the significance of the loss of an important venue where new artists were given a chance to perform and where there was the opportunity to see acclaimed artists. The same as The Black Horse Festival today. At first it was a folk reunion, now it is a four day multi-faceted fixture on the music calendar.

In 1997 some people in the USA saw the festival's web site and came to the Festival. then every year there have been international visitors from the USA and Europe.

This year visitors will come from near and far to enjoy the festival's unique atmosphere. The organizers will once again provide a FREE service to and from Battle Railway Station.

The Festival blasts off with a spectacular night of BLUES on Friday May 26th with Mama Josie and The Alleycatz, Buick 6, and The Stevie Zee band.

Saturday 29th May is the traditional reunion of the folk club with The Tabs closing a day comprising two sessions of modern and traditional folk music. Meet On The Ledge will be last on stage in the afternoon session with their full band and will return as part of the evening session when The Tabs will be giving the same type of performance that wowed the thousands at Cropredy last year.

Sunday afternoon Nana Tsiboe's Assem Ni will be producing the sounds of Ghana and West Africa while The Four Brothers, an acclaimed band from Zimbabwe will provide the music of South East Africa. Later in the evening The Liars will precede R Cajun and the Zydeco Brothers who have rightly been described as the best Cajun and Zydeco outfit seen outside Louisiana.

On the evening of Monday 31st May it's the farewell party for another year with wonderful Ska band Intensified and the inimitable Soul of The Blackman Brothers big Band complete with the big brass section. Following an afternoon of young bands where local developing talent will play on the same stage as an established successful band yet to be announced.
