In 1985 Bp Ban It Chiu, formerly bishop of Singapore, visitied St. Ninian's Church and left the above photograph with us. It appears that the picture was taken by a Chinese photographer, deeply troubled religiously; it was of melting snow with black earth showing through. When he developed it, he was amazed to see in it the face of Christ, full of tenderness and love, and he became a Christian.
He told us:-
"It may take you a long time to see the face but be assured that it is there. It will suddenly become visible. It is, perhaps, a parable that in the perplexities and turmoil of life we can suddenly become conscious of His presence. Once seen, however, as in the picture, He dominates the scene, and one wonders how it was possible to miss Him."

Melita Bosworth made al arge version for the old hall and it proved to be quite a talking point and a good way of getting those passing by to stoop and look. We hope to find other simnilar ways of provoking initial conversations with strangers.
