1983

The observatory was closed during repairs to the dome drive motor control, which had burned-out. Lectures continued during this period.

 

1985

During the Airdrie Public Observatory Open Day, held during the Airdrie Festival, the Space Shuttle Grid Computer" was demonstrated.

Oscar Schwiglhofer, Robert Law and Lorna Napier organise Halay's Comet observations

 

1986

Following a break-in and damage caused by vandals, the telescope was repaired by John Braithwaite of Dalserf Optics. The district council arranged for a lock to be placed on the dome and the dome drive motor was relocated.

Halleys Comet Watch and Mir/Salyut 7 Watch organised.

 

1987

Robert Law resigned as Honorary Assistant Curator. Duncan Lunan, then ASTRA Secretary, appointed as Honorary Assistant Curator. Moon-Rock exhibited at the observatory's open-day.

 

1988

Airdrie Public Observatory Open Day during the Airdrie Festival held in June - exhibition by Royal Observatory, Edinburgh and a display of sundials by Richard Robertson.

 

1989

Airdrie Public Observatory Open Day during the Airdrie Festival held in June - a display of telescopes by John Braithwaite.

 

1990

Airdrie Public Observatory Open Day during the Airdrie Festival held in June - a display of the 'Face on Mars' by Chris O'Kane.

Mars Watch held during November.

 

1991

Airdrie Public Observatory Open Day during the Airdrie Festival held in June - Greg Beekman created a star map for display within the observatory.

 

1993

Airdrie Public Observatory Open Day during the Airdrie Festival held in June - an exhibit of NASA posters, a display of telescopes by Braithwaite Telescopes and a demonstration of solar projection.

 

1994

Airdrie Public Observatory Open Day during the Airdrie Festival held in June - an exhibit from the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh.

During the month of July a 5 day Jupiter Watch was undertaken by Airdrie branch members of ASTRA in an attempt to view the Shoemaker Levy impact with Jupiter.

 

1994 - 1995

Mechanical drive overhauled by Danny Kane, Vice President of ASTRA. During this period the dome mechanism was also overhauled by Danny Kane and Oscar Schwiglhofer.

 

1995

Three exhibitions were held at the Weavers Cottage Museum during the summer months as part of the 100th anniversary celebrations for the observatory. Moon-Rock and computer graphics were also exhibited at the observatory's open-day, during the Airdrie Festival, as part of the 100th anniversary celebrations for the observatory.
