Feb.23. 'Cosmology' by Dr. Derryck Case, Keele University, at Airdrie; first of several speakers from Keele organised by Greg Beekman.

Mar.20. Visit to Glasgow Nautical College Planetarium.

Apr.6-8. Duncan Lunan lectures on Solar System, UFO's (the Truth about...) and Green Children mystery, Edinburgh International Science Festival.

Apr.12. Gagarin anniversary; 'The Megaliths of Powys' by Tony Crerar (see 1980), Airdrie.

Apr.16. 'Heresies in Archaeoastronomy' 2-day conference at Edinburgh International Science Festival; speakers Archie Roy, Tony Crerar, Robert Bauval, Alan Evans, John Braithwaite, Duncan Lunan, Chris O'Kane and students from North Kelvinside Secondary School. Follow-up meeting at Glasgow Nautical

College planetarium, May 23; second conference 1997 (see below); followed by article in Analog, March 1998.

May 4. AGM, GCVS. Roddy Chisholm appointment ratified. Publications committee formed of Dave Allen, Andy Nimmo, Duncan Lunan; new series of ASTRA leaflets produced, followed by an Airdrie set produced by Nick Portwin.

May 10. Andy Paterson and Chris Boyce launch new discussion project based on Andy's space art, Airdrie.

May 24. 'Keeper of Genesis' lecture by Robert Bauval, Airdrie Arts Centre.

May 31. 'Proteins Structures, Hormones and Sunlight', talk by Prof. Neil Isaacs, Chemistry Dept., University of Glasgow, at Airdrie, later repeated at GCVS, Oct.26.

June 8. Airdrie Public Observatory Open Day.

July. Death of Dr. Mary Dawson, Airdrie member for ten years.

July 26-29. Albacon science fiction convention, Central Hotel, Glasgow; ASTRA participation including space politics, the future of human and artificial intelligence, mishaps in space, Waverider update, green children talk.

Aug.2-3. NASA unveils LO-FLYTE Waverider research vehicle at Oshkosh Air Show, Wisconsin.

Aug.11. Death of Paul Grant, Airdrie member for eight years.

Sept.6-8. Article on Green Children mystery in Analog; Duncan Lunan represents ASTRA and lectures on Waverider and Green Children at Horncastle Astronomy Weekend.

Sept.21-28. National Astronomy Week. Star party at Drumpellier Country Park Visitor Centre, lecture on Green Children by Duncan Lunan at Renfrew & District Astronomy Society, discussion meeting on Spaceguard (detecting impact hazards) at GCVS, Andy Paterson exhibition at Dick Institute, Kilmarnock (not an ASTRA event, but by an ASTRA member).

Sept.30-Dec.7. ASTRA photo exhibition at 'Surfing the Universe', Strathclyde University Bicentenary Drama and Science Festival, Ramshorn Theatre, Glasgow. Space art and science fiction poetry discussion meeting, Sept.30, and Mars presentation by Chris O'Kane and North Kelvinside students.

Oct.4. Sputnik 1 anniversary and 18th anniversary of reopening of Airdrie Public Observatory by Astronomer Royal for Scotland (see 1978). Airdrie Public Observatory reopened by new Astronomer Royal for Scotland, Prof. John Brown of Glasgow University, former ASTRA member, with guests from Czechoslovakian Astronomical Institute; Prof. Brown gave out Volunteers' Week certificates to ASTRA members. Evening sponsored by Braithwaite Telescopes.

Oct.11. Chris O'Kane report to Airdrie branch on his visit to Giza and Saqqara in Egypt with Robert Bauval and Graham Hancock for panoramic photography using the 'Vistamorph' system developed by Richard McKelvie and himself.

Nov.22. Paul Money, Horncastle Astronomical Society, 'It Came from Mars', Airdrie.

Dec.13. Anniversary Dinner, Airdrie Arts Centre.
